Corrupt or missing motherboard or chipset drivers
- Windows may install drivers for select devices, say the graphics card, under certain circumstances. This happens by default for instance when the device is setup, but may also happen when Microsoft pushes driver updates through Windows Updates.
- To verify that your driver is working, you should see a difference in the following pictures after plugging the CH340 to a USB port. To check that the CH340 enumerates to a COM port, you can open the device manager. You can click the Start or ⊞ (Windows) button and type 'device manager to quickly search for the application.
Download and install the latest chipset and video card drivers. If you or someone you know built your computer, it came with the motherboard CD. This CD contains the chipset drivers. Otherwise, you can find drivers for all the major chipsets on our motherboard drivers page.

If you tried the above two steps and your Windows Device Manager still contains an Unknown PCI device, likely the device cannot be identified.
